What are you drinking tonight.

the trouble with port is, sooner or later you have to stop drinking it and then the Armageddon of a port hangover will make you wish you'd never started drinking it!!

In all honesty im 46 and i never have woken up with a hangover from port. I have woken up still as rattarsed as when i went to bed on a hell of a lot of occasions But i never have woken with a hangover.

Ice cubes!?

<faints>
Some of us spend half our lives trying to ensure that no trace of water contaminates our Dry Martinis!

Try this. Put your gin and vermouth into a suitable container. Drop in a handful of small ice cubes which, ideally, should be taken from a freezer at about -20C. Stir 10 times in each direction (shaking melts too much ice) and decant immediately into a pre-chilled martin glass.

You'll notice a difference!

Thanks for the advice; I'll give it a try. We, SWMBO and I, like our dry martinis really cold and to stay cold, so we've been putting small ice cubes into the glass; it's a compromise, but we've found we like the taste when they're cold better. One thought I've had is to use 'ice rocks', which are first frozen before use; this would prevent water 'contamination'. What's interesting is that this is the only drink I put ice in be it alcoholic or non-alcoholic, including water. Furthermore, I like my beer/ale closer to room temperature than ice cold; I guess the Americans drink their beer (?) ice cold because it's so tasteless and fizzy.

I hold the martini glass by the stem which keeps it cold longer and I also drink it quickly 'cos I'm a greedy pig! Win,win!
