At least you know it hasn't been overly processed. 
This is good advice. The drying bit is also key for de-funking it - give it 48 hours between uses/washes.

Badger, boar, and horse, can reek no matter where they're from, but it does go away with a few uses, I almost threw a soap away one time because I thought it had gone rancid, then I remembered it was a new boar knot.

Head and shoulders shampoo, left for 48hrs to dry and then just lathered it up with shaving soap and left it over night.... It is getting better now

50% water to 50% vinegar also works
