Vulfix 404 Descriptions/prices

There is a 404 badger/boar mix and a 404 pure sometimes listed as 404B. Both are from the Vulfix Grosvenor range. The 404 mix has a 21mm knot the pure has a 23mm knot. And there is also a best badger version in the USA.

There seem to be significant variations in prices and descriptions of these brushes. Be sure you know what you are getting when you buy. Take a look at some of these. The last two are UK based.

I personally would like to see a 23mm mix. I find the 21mm in this brush a tad too small. Still, a good brush for the price .

Good post. I was thinking of getting the 404 from diamond edge as it's pretty universally recommended as a starter brush. I might just hold off and wait to get something a touch pricier and be more confident in exactly what it is. £8 isn't much to spend on a brush, but when they have the vulfix 2235 best badger for just £20 more then it starts to look more significant.

I have the 2235 and am happy but others find it a touch too soft apparently.

At £8 plus post, you cannot fault this brush, just buy it! I bought a EJ BB as a first brush and it is good, but i just fancied a bit of a change so i bought this and have used it ever since. That said, i also have a Semogue full bore Boar, i am just waiting for the optimum time to rotate

Good post Fido, that clarify's things nicely.

I didn't particularly like 404B (Pure) or the 2235 Super as neither brush contained much hair, one was "remodelled" the other sold on.

Superior Shaving describe the 2235 thus "These are luxurious, 'floppy' brush heads of supremely soft hair, with a sort of key-shaped and ridged handle."

Their price point might seem tempting but unless I had some poor examples I would stick with the 404 mix for general use or commission one for a bit extra.
