Things you don't see anymore

Ideologies (remember Socialism, anyone? Or Thatcherism? Or any other Big Idea, for that matter? Remember when political parties were different? When people had hopes and dreams and values and visions and - in short - beliefs. Marches and magazines and debates.)

Vinyl. 7" and 12", 45 and 33 & 1/3

Indie Music. Now everything is free and/or owned by an arm of one of the Big Four companies. But I loved flexidiscs and mixtapes and fanzines and genuinely independent record labels (there's three words! "independent" + "record" + "labels" - all gone or going). Remember finding a band and sharing their music, being part of a scene, a really (often literally) underground subculture - the sense of effort (finding out, disseminating, joining) and the concomitant satisfaction at that.

Bliss was it in that dawn to be alive,
But to be young was very heaven!

And finally John Peel. Curator and cross-pollinator of music by, for and of the people.

and finally and most disappointingly of all, finding out that nurses don't wear regulation stockings and suspendersanymore
Some do ;)

Sorry, should have qualified my statement.

Female Nurses  :? ;)
Yes, I did mean female nurses, why do you think I became a nurse :!: -
Anyway I find them too scratchy and prefer "stays"

This has given me quite a chuckle.

White dug shite, must be because of "standards" enforced onto the animal feed trade. Ash/chalk in food etc.

To anyone saying they miss tramps then you need to visit Glasgow, there are a few genuine tramps left. I remember seeing one on Union St and he was casually walking down the street early-ish on a Sunday morning. Someone had left a half full pint lying just out of sight behind a phone box, from the night before. In one swift and smooth movement the tramp whisked up the glass, downed it's contents and casually threw the glass in a bin, a mere 2 steps away. He didn't miss a single footstep in doing so. Ahhhhhh such character.

Also to quote Billy Connolly, you never see people with "neck lumps" anymore.

My vet hypothesised it's because dogs get fewer uncooked bones - you buy one in a pet shop and it'll have been roasted... you get one for free at the butchers (and he's pleased to be shot of them - saves him some on his bone disposal bill) it's fresh.

Apocryphally there's one in Glasgow called "Davie nae dugs" - he used to have two ("Davie twa dugs"), one was lured away by another tramp & he became "Davie one dug"... then the other one died... obviously since the Kelvingrove incident I'm not allowed to go to Glasgow any more
