I have a Merkur 20c (same closed comb head as 34HD) and it's a lovely smooth and safe razor, but it's just a fraction too safe for me.
The EJ89 is that fraction more aggressive and shaves just a fraction closer.
I am finding the KCG has the best of both worlds and i really, really like it: which i wasn't expecting to. I bought it because it was on sale and i thought it would be just another ok razor, but it appears to be well built and somehow different to the 89 that it copies. It's both sharp and smooth, with different blades.
