Hi Blademonkey,Hi Jason, that is quite shocking that most people who use carts or disposables don't even know that DE exists as a viable option, the people ( friends ) I've spoken to about how I shave know that there are other methods but seem to be stuck in their ways and simply just don't want to change, some even think it's really strange that I would want to use a straight razor to shave with when they have disposables " which are far safer and never going to kill them" so what I'm saying is even if you show or tell people about it most just don't want to change and will be happy useing what they are using.
But as an experiment I will put together a beginners kit of a basic DE razor ,soap ,brush, and some blades and give as a Christmas gift to a friend and see if he gets into it and maybe if he does he may spread the word himself.
Ps sorry to the OP for going off thread a little and now back to the
Gillette Tech which is the razor I will be putting in this start up pack, phew, stayed on topic after all!!
Thank you, I hope he gives it a go and maybe enjoys it, I can but try!Hi Blademonkey,
Great idea with the starter pack (including Tech) for a friend - I reckon a Gillette Tech is a great razor for those new to DE - or old hands...I often take my Tech on holiday, as it is so forgiving - but at the same time very effective.
...Progress? Depends what your goals are maybe?
Yes, but in shaving terms - was the move away from DE / straight razors (towards disposables / cartridges) really progress?Progress = not riding a horse daily or using them to plow a field, not having to defecate in a cold outhouse or having to draw water from a well, etc. The list goes on.

I suppose it depends what you are looking for in a shave. If you want a relaxing enjoyable close shave then maybe not, but if you just want to get rid of stubble in the quickest easiest way with the least amount of faffing about then maybe it is. There must have been something preferable about disposable razor shaving for enough people to switch from DE razors back then, or it would never have caught on.Yes, but in shaving terms - was the move away from DE / straight razors (towards disposables / cartridges) really progress?
Re: The Gillette Tech
Lovely Razors and thanks for the review.
I am desperate to find a mint/near mint ball end tech.

What's it matter? What if your aunt had testicles, would she be your uncle? It happened, so it is (with Gillette and not your aunt).
Good advice; never bothered looking at travel kits. However, now I'm hooked on shaving with a Tech - I'll go have a mooch on ebayI agree that the best place to find a mint tech is in a shaving kit. I found one in a bakelite case complete with travel kit for under a tenner (£10). Little bit of grime deep in the knurling was removed using Barkeepers Friend cream. Currently this ball-end tech is my favourite razor.
