The Fatip Chronicles

...I have the Fatip Piccolo, Fatip Grande (Gunmetal) and a Fatip Piccolo head on a webber bulldog handle. All three heads are V2 with the logo on the baseplate and none have blade alignment issues. The plating on the Piccolos are good as are the tolerances. The gunmetal finish on the Grande was slightly incomplete from new, a tiny patch of brass showing through on the head. I find the different handles give a different feel and shave. The solid, short, thin, brass handle of the Piccolo affords the razor a beautiful balance, agility and manouverability. A smooth really close shave comes easilly. The compromise though for me is that the handle can at times feel infuriatingly thin especially when switching to the Fatip from another razor. The balance on the Grande is very different. The longer, lighter, fatter, hollow brass handle shifts the weight to the head and for me does not feel as intuitive to use; it also feels less agile and manouverable although a smooth close shave is readilly secured. The Fatip OC on a webber bulldog handle again shifts the weight, this time to the handle and while it still gives a smooth, close shave the razor feels somewhat conventional even ordinary as if some of its spirit has been diminished. I find it interesting that Fatip on their website refer to the handle on the Grande as "oversized". The Fatips will shave at a shallow and a steep angle, similar to the R41; however I have found that I need to keep the angle nailed and maintain the discipline of using no pressure to avoid razor burn creeping-up after several weeks shaving. I am a daily shaver (7 days a week) and use the Fatips for several months at a time before rotating to another razor. At the moment I find myself reaching for the Piccolo more but want to love the Grande more...as I prefer its aesthetics...

Wow - you have been lucky - I have a piccolo and a TG - both have a charming 3rd world build quality (I.e. Dreadful) !!! Still love them!!!!

I never attempted to use an OC Fatip as I know that my sensitive skin doesn't like at all aggressive razors. Given that and fond of its aesthetic I decided to give a chance to the Fatip Gentile.
I tried many blades but never could achieve a decent shave: it proved to me to have an aggressiveness unpaired by its efficiency. I had not so closed but irritating shaves, then it went to BST with no complaints!

Thanks, I will look into that.
