I'm an after-shave or balm user when shaving plus moisturise when I remember

Give it a go. You can't go wrong IMO. I use it all the time. While I have never used other brands beyond Thayers, I know other folks do.

I use it just like aftershave splash. It's excellent for more aggressive razor shaves when you don't want to face the Home Alone effect.

Yes I like it a lot - I have both rose and cucumber. Very soothing - really calms any irritation down and tones things up. In the UK summer I like witch hazel and occasionally aftershave lotion, in winter I like witch hazel and then a light balm.

I use "pure witch hazel" (alcohol free) from Country Cosmetics (Amazon) if I've had a really rough shave with noticeable irritation. Doesn't necessarily do something immediately but I do find it heals faster and stops being sore quicker. Can't imagine the Thayers will be any worse...

(I normally use an aftershave or balm, the witch hazel comes out when I need to double bag it due to severe irritation, etc. as my neck in particular is quite sensitive to razor burn)

I use the generic witch hazel from Wal-Mart. It goes on before the aftershave.

Benefits?

It will prevent those neck turkey wattles as you age, other than that, not much, just an extra layer of disinfectant.
