Tatara AMAKUNI SE

Truthfully, I have no issue with the magnetic locking mechanism for the Amakuni whatsoever as magnets can be quite strong in holding two or more components together along with alignment. I own the TiGlide S1 by Titaner and the head actually locks in quite strongly onto the baseplate with the rear screw to add reinforcement to the total enclosure. I've shaved with it without tightening that lock screw with no issues of the cap & blade moving during the shave. My thing is solely aesthetics and the potential weight bias of the head being a bit to light for the mass and proportion relative to the handle. I could be completely wrong on the latter aspect and the Amakuni may show excellent balance and feel.

I just think its rather unattractive and looks like this bloke below.....

Okay, the prototype looks more balanced and I get the silhouette of the final product is less so.

Quite a few people have reservations about using magnets.

The prototype is a very smooth and comfortable razor but it seems Tatara have come up with a polarising final design. My prototype is not high efficiency but is a gentle shave. I can use Feather Supers without any harshness for extra efficiency. The finished razor has been modified and is designed to be more efficient.

I didn't think that the magnets would be so controversial.

Like any new razor there is lots of competition and we now have lots of choices for the AC format.

I can't share pictures of the prototype as it contains design elements that didn't make it to the final product that Tatara would like to keep to themselves for now. Some significant changes were made to the design following testing by myself and others. Once the pass around starts I will make some comparisons but like I mentioned I won't go into specifics about the changes.

That sounds fair and logical as you explained it. Tatara decided to modify towards the end on their final product to acquire added benefits in cutting ability. However, if I may ask without you disparaging Tatara's decision to change at the production end of it. Would you have preferred the prototype in hand based on its overall looks with its smoother shave characteristics or would you have traded that package for the newer look with gained performance attributes?

Thanks in advance amigo.... (y)

Yes, I do prefer the look of the prototype. Visually it is more balanced. Obviously they decided to make some changes based on feedback and potential sales. Not all my feedback was carried through to the production model. I don't know how many other testers were involved and they made their own adjustments of course.

I do prefer a milder shave and this prototype is more Masamune than Nodachi.

I have arthritis and in my hands and I suspect the magnetic plate would be an issue. I would have much preferred a thread The aesthetically the photographs to me it looks cumbersome and awkward, but slimmer and neater in the video clip.
I would like participate in any potential pass around

I am still on the fence, it has been on my wish list for so long I can wait until I hear a few reviews before diving in, especially as there’s no discount. I veer from loving parts of the design to being put off by others. The handle just doesn’t seem to be well balanced aesthetically/design wise or practically, it in other shots especially the video it looks great. It’s not a slam dunk but it now and I’m half tempted to wait for the next sale they run when it’s likely to be discontinued.

What is the issue with the Everyday?

The use of magnets seems to be a big deal for a lot of people.
You mean apart from the magnets falling out of the top cap.
If you don’t get them back exactly in the same seated position and that's not as easy as it sounds. then you have essentially changed the angle/gap and shave.
Epoxy pushes the magnets back out unless clamped as it dries.

Unless there is a passaround and it gives a next level shave, it may be a hard pass.

I'm not keen on the profile looking like a goomba from the Mario film, the fixed baseplate (if it is indeed fixed), or the magnets. I could get past it if it were just one of those things, but all three combined just make me scratch my head.

That being said I'll keep my mind open and see what the reviews look like.

As soon as I get mine gents - I’ll do a video and upload it to YouTube - as best as I can I will demonstrate a showcase - so I’ll get all angles from up close and afar.

Show how the blade is loaded and unloaded and just give you all an in depth review.

No point in doing a shave video as we all know - if I like it - you may hate it. But there does seem a lot of skepticism about its looks.

So as soon as I get it fellas I’ll do a proper run down. Fingers crossed it helps .
