Straight Razor Shave of the Day

Razor Dorko 43 Near Wedge
Another SR shave in the books! This razor's grind, heft, and smooth edge make a workday rush 3pass shave very enjoyable even though the results are just ccs-sas with 1 red spot...

Razor Joseph Elliott 13/16 "Fine India Steel"
A very enjoyable shave with this razor. The edge is very smooth and crisp after putting it through the Kanayama strop. 3passes for a dfs-ccs category without any issues.

Razor Gold Dollar 208
A good and satisfactory shave with this cheapest but most excellent razor. The edge feels so smooth and comfortable...only ever maintained on pasted balsa and now also with the Kanayama strop. 3passes for a dfs-ccs-sas finish without any issues...

They're a funny thing those Gold Dollar. Reading around you might think they're not good, or just cheap and cheerful, but John June of JJ Shaves uses them as a start point for his JJ Shorty series, which are reshaped GD with custom scales. They must be decent steel for him to want to put the time into modifying them and to put his name on them. I haven't tried either a GD or a Shorty, and if I hadn't got lazy and started using DE so much, I would have bought a Shorty by now. Perhaps I'll fix that soon.

Razor Henkotsu Kamisori
Today's shave with this Kamisori after putting it through another full-pasted balsa progression was kinda muted. The edge was popping hairs very well but did not feel as efficient during the shave although still feel smooth. Workday rush 2passes for a sas result without any issues...

Abbate y la Mantia Buttero
Simpson Commodore best badger x3
Fritz Bracht Tennis 5/8 extra hollow

Buttero is Italian for cattle wrangler, relating to the leather scent; any associatio with butter is a 'false friend'. This is an unusual soap. The saffron scent is noticeable in this despite being there for cosmetic rather than olfactory reasons. The scent itself, leather, is quite dry and altogether an agreeable enjoyable smell. It's a hard dry soap in the tin. The odd thing about the soap is it appears to be impossible to lather, forming more of a slick liquid than a traditional lather. It doesn't volumise or take on air, you basically mix it to the right consistency. It's then very stable and provides lubrication and some cushion for the shave.

The shave was OK, I need to give the tennis another go on the pasted balsa as it wasn't quite as keen as I like, although I still got a good shave, albeit I had to work for it a bit.

Razor J.R.Torrey 5/8
This razor's edge feels really smooth and crisp...very easy to maneuver and a pleasure to shave with...maintained all this while with pasted balsa and Kanayama strops.

Hey, thanks for your comment. This GD208 is a 2nd sent by the vendor after the 1st razor I received shows plenty of rust. For the price, I commended the vendor for his excellent customer service...from Canada to Malaysia. I've only since maintained on my pasted balsa strops...
I do wish for better scales but I am nonetheless happy the razor can shave well... :D :)
