I agree, it may very well be overkill.. but when the price is overkill and when the competitor provides better materials at the same or lower price, I'm kinda wanting the same thing...

316 is not “better” than 303/304, it is more corrosion resistant when exposed to chlorides. That last point is important because unless you're shaving in seawater and then leaving your razor soaking in it you're really not gaining anything with 316. The Chrysler Building has been clad in 304 stainless for nearly 100 years and it still looks just fine.

Your razor gets wet periodically and then lives in a nice warm house.
 
I'm beginning to wonder how the British ever forged an empire without stainless barrels for their Brown Bess muskets as one would think from reading this thread that they would have rusted down to the wood on an ocean voyage!!
