SOTD: Saturday 4th - Friday 10th. May 2019.

07/05/19

Brush - Yaqi 26mm Timberwolf
Pre - Floïd Oil
Razor - Yaqi Space Blue Brass Scalloped
Blade - Gillette Platinum (3)
Soap - Arko
ASL - Proraso Blue
Bowl - Giles Shaving Co.

The scalloped closed comb is definitely more aggressive than the DOC but it has delivered a nice shave. Annoyingly I've missed a small patch on the side of my neck that prevents a complete glass like finish. On the plus side, I'm going to bed smelling like an excellently maintained toilet!

That's the Gillette Platinum trial now completed across three different razors. I like it. Next blade will be a Rubie so I can do a comparison, followed by the Rapira Platinum Lux.

  • QShave Futur clone (3)
  • Triton R3 (6)
  • NOM Black Fibre
  • Chinese wooden shaving bowl
  • The Bathhouse - Cuban Cedar & Lime
  • Stirling - Margaritas on the Arctic After-shave Balm

BBS & DFS, quick and smooth, the Triton at it's end of life, into the blade bank. The Cedar & Lime is great soap, smells very nice also, buit for me it could have been a bit more punchy. That punch is now the MitA, love that smell, of to Hospital, a long long day ahead by four specialists..

Hope all goes well at the hospital for you.

Simpson Chubby 1 /Maggards 2 Band
Williams Mug Soap
PAA Starling V2 - OC
Gem S/S [ 6 ]
Williams Aqua Velva A/S Lotion

My first use of the OC plate on the Starling.During initial clearance stages I find it to be much harsher than Vintage SEs, though it is quite efficient.
Provided one keeps up a good lather, I found that by using the lightest of touches one can get a good quality close all round finish. I cannot imagine
how it would perform for me with the original handle, as during the polishing up stages the extra weight really helps the Shave go well, as one uses the weight to avoid exerting undue pressure. After one outing I think the OC plate is a better option than the solid bar.

B&M ‘Behold the Whatsis!'
Envy Shave ‘8 Ball'
Valet VC4
Feather #3

Tried lathering this soap sample with a Shavemac badger but the soap lather totally dissipated, so put the entire remainder of the sample in the shave mug and produced a very good lather with a synthetic, smells a strange mix of citrus and baked cookies. The soap is reasonably good but I prefer other soap bases.
