Ditto Garry but how are we ever going to improve if our ladies don't give us the time!I'm shite at golf.
+1 to Tony's comment @Rubbish Triathlete - aim to get much more out of your GEM bladesLots of firsts for me this morning:
My shaving recipe today:
- First shave with my new (to me) Ever Ready 1914 single edge
- This is my first SOTD post
I am delighted with the Ever Ready. As I shaved I felt no sense of dragging or that it was not dealing with the thicker stubble on my chin. I didn't try very hard to do under my nostrils but that felt more tricky than with my favourite Gillette adjustables. It felt exceptionally smooth. But the alum did sting more than my usual shave, suggesting that the Ever Ready is a bit more aggressive than it felt.
- Shower and face wash with soap
- Haslinger sandalwood (I love this soap,
- scent, amazing leather and glide)
- Omega Hi-Brush, face lather
- Ever Ready 1912 Made in England (from eBay)
- Personna Gem (from Connaught Shaving)
- Alum stick
- Nivea Sensitive ASB
- Two passes, WTG and ATG
- Very comfortable and a good shave
- Alum stick indicated more nicks than I felt at the time
The bad news is that just as I thought my collection of vintage razors was nearing a form of completion, there's a load more to explore... I say (that's) bad news, but of course it's hours of fun surfing eBay and Etsy and the forums to understand the history and different models. I'll get some grief from Mrs Rubbish for accumulating more stuff, but there are worse bad habits that collecting shaving accessories.
I do worry that the global supply of Gem blades might run out. Should I buy more, just in case? How many is enough? If each lasts three shaves and I used this razor 20% of the time, shaving 300 days per year, if I live another 30 years I'll need 600 blades. I've only got 100. So if there is more than a 17% chance of blademageddon I should buy more.
@Rubbish Triathlete,
You should get 10 plus shaves from a GEM blade. Run a blade until it goes off. It normally takes a couple of shaves for them to settle.
YMMV of course.
