SOTD ,SATURDAY 19th JANUARY 2019 - FRIDAY 25th January 2019.

Sunday, 20 January

PreShave: Warm water
Cream: TOBS Platinum Collection
Brush: Kent BK8
Bowl: My recycled cream bowl
Razor: The Sledgehammer (Merkur 39C)
Blade Astra Platinum (1)
Post Shave: Alum

Fragrance: Floris Jermyn Street

The sampling exercise has begun, day one with the Astra. Then afterwards there'll be three more shaves to go, then to compare with a Nacet, Polsilver and Voskhod (each for four shaves). As usual the Astra gave a really fine, and BBS smooth shave.

Hope that thumb heals up OK @Digimonkey ...

Pre-shave:- Warm rinse
Brush:- Executive Shaving Company Medium Jock Synthetic
Soap/Cream:- The Shaving Shop Pursuit of Happiness Hedonisme soap
Razor/Blade:- RazoRock Hawk / Schick Proline P-30 (2)
Post-shave:- Thayers Cucumber / The Shaving Shop Pursuit of Happiness Hedonisme aftershave / Proraso Aloe Vera and Vitamin E (blue) balm

My 2nd SE shave with RazoRock's Hawk. Looking at this razor with a blade loaded is a thing of beauty. It looks so intimidating yet produces such good results.

I cut my preparation short this evening by missing out the pre-shave cream - I normally use Proraso. I had already decided to use the Shaving Shop soap and I know that this gives fantastic slickness and cushion. I was happy that the pre-shave wouldn't be required.

The lather performed as expected with a good creamy consistency with a wet brush. Knowing this was a consecutive shaving day I spent a good few minutes working the lather in, particularly around my trouble spots.

Then on with the shave. Another 3 pass shave with no hiccups. No weepers this time and a DFS. I concentrated on no pressure whatsoever and let the blade do the work. Everything was easy, though my goatee area needed a bit more work than usual. I could hear the blade scraping across the stubble but it just didn't want to remove it, that was against the grain. I fired on some more lather and went again, this time buffing lightly, with the stubble finally reducing down to BBS.

I'm happy to admit that it is undoubtedly my technique (I'm only on my 2nd SE shave) but I'm also questioning the weight of the razor. However...I'll keep going until this blade has run its course, and maybe, just maybe, I'll think about trying a heavier handle to see if it makes any difference.

I finished off with Thayers and The Shaving Shop's aftershave. There was still a good amount of slickness from the lather, even after a cold rinse and splash with Thayers, and the aftershave just topped that off. Once my skin had dried I felt the need for a bit of moisturiser so added a dot of Proraso blue balm. This finished it off nicely.

A BBS finish that has me ready for Monday morning.

Have a great week folks! [emoji1303]
