Oh yes, Spanish would be "the same, but different" from Portuguese. I can read Spanish without difficulty, but not everyone here can understand Spanish, so it is common for most people here to communicate with our Spanish neighbors through "portuñol" (a mix of words in Spanish and Portuguese).
