SOTD: March 2026

Hey thanks for the post. Truthfully I just figured the head itself was two pieces but you're saying the top cap screws into the handle base? Pics I've seen of a 34c made me think that wasn't the case but as I said Ive never seen one in person.

So, what do you think i might have here, based on my thoughts about the bite? Hah, it's too gruesome for me for whatever the reason

Muhle 2011 R41 head and a custom handle? possibly..Muhle R41 is a very aggressive razor by legend ..especially the pre 2011 versionn..

Thanks for the post. Yeah, I was surprised to see how much bite this thing has, seeing as how it gets great reviews even for a new shaving experience. The head came with that 76g handle and I figured the 34c was the logical model but man, it about kilt me!

Maybe it's the heavy handle doing some of the damage but still, I don't think I will try it on a lighter one after all the bloodshed. I hadda look to make sure it wasn't a crazy aggressive head because of how much blade feel there is...........which I hate.

Hah, smooth as silk does not describe my experience.

Where did you get the model? If this was on AliExpress or e-Bay then you might have a nearly identical clone. Sounds like you have another Merkur model or even A Muhle that is a 3 piece with a very similar name. I do know when reading reviews some of the Muhle are very aggressive but give a BBS smooth shave. Also a tip Do not use the Merkur DE blades if your shaver came with them as most people have problems with those blades saying they feel like a King C Gillette/Gillette Super Blue blades made in China that are sharp but have the micro edge you get in the sharping process of a blade that needs to be stropped backwards first to be ready.

Fun fact, Muhle had some models in 2017 when I was looking at shaving with a DE shaver that were only able to fit the Muhle design of blade because the brand used some old East German models (Clones) where they made the shaver a hair bigger to fit only the as a way to discourage people from switching over to West Germany. People in Amazon reviews were showing some older versions of the two oldest models that could only use the version of blade made by the company for those shavers. Since then, around 2018--2019 the problem was fixed so they could use the shavers from other brands as the blades they had were becoming harder to find where if you have those older models, these Muhle blades are impossible to get blades for the shaver.

Ahhh, ok I've heard of that older R41 being intense but if anything would have steered me away totally. Personally I don't care to feel the blade on my face except on rare occasions using an OC mild type.

I'd posted recently in the DE section about this set up and found out about the handle which is a heavy 76g and on the short side. Quite often the head most seen as a combo would be an old Gillette USA one provided by the American maker. Sad to sy I have no clue how this was acquired and just found it maybe a week ago.

So I have a few newer DE89 Muhle/Jagger heads which I actually like a good bit (mild) and this head ain't them. Now I'm guessing whoever custom ordered this frankenrazor might have wanted the best bite for the buck. The heavy handle aggressive head combo......haha loaded with a Feather. I'll also mention Bob the handle's craftsman passed away in 2012 I believe, so if this is an R41 it would probably be the most vampire like. Weighs about 105g and about as long as a Fatboy

Here's a few very poor pics:

I can only imagine that you have a 'GOAT'.. Razorocks homage to the 34c.. that is a bit of a marmite razor, with some saying it's quite aggressive.

yeah, exactly my point..

Ok got it. Meanwhile here's under the top cap......looks like #21 for what that's worth.

One thing I'll try is using the same new blade in a different head and see if that's the problem but it's doubtful. Here's my new short heavy set up using a favorite Stahly head that's gotta be over 100g total.....fingers crossed.
