SOTD: February 2026

At 10:05--10:17 am

Today's shave before the shower was an 10/10. I used dial 2 with only 1 micro cuts on the chin/jawline area with a BBS and it might be soon time to go to dial 3. Today was Personna USA 100 pack from 2017, day 9 topside. I do flip the blade over around 14--16 and count the flipped side amount with also a total overall.

I use, as always, my H 2 or 1962 Gillette Adjustable 1960's era shaver, my model without the case.

I used Arko in the Harvey & Cavendish tin with the cheap Asian Bush and every time the brush had hairs falling out lost about 12-15 more hair this time only short useless or thin wires also most short only after the previous losses of about 5, 10--15, 10--15, 10--15, 10--15, 20--25, 15--20, and finally 40--50 in order from day one. The shaver was kind of overpacked with hair inside the brush part that was kind of stiff on the first 3 uses.
I did not need to put more shaving cream on the face just get part of the moustache as I got the soap to foam correctly with not too thin or too thick where I had to then foam the soap on my face in two thin layers but did touchup without the cream in a few parts like my chin and a few parts on the moustache area.

This was probably the best or close to the best shave since double edge shaving first in late 2017 I have had, certainly the best with the shave soap and shave bush.

Those in the USA looking for a cheap travel brush that uses Boar/ unbleached most likely domestic boar they do not need to worry about the loss of during travel. They might have the same Brush on Your Countries Amazon that is like this.

I did not need to put more shaving cream on the face as I got the soap to foam correctly with not too thin or too thick where I had to then foam the soap on my face in two layers of right proportion but added more to the lower lip and straight down and moustache area. I may have added too much Arko soap to moustache area hence the 2 micro mini cuts or the skipping of days might be the issue.

I did have to before using the Arko dump out this little bit of old water that was sitting the shave/lather container since Sunday as it smelled like old laundry soap that got used but not used up in the machine, a little sitting in the soap dispenser after a few days.

Again no weepers at all but my face felt uncomfortable at the end of the shave, not sure if because scrubby boar, poor technique with the Natu (used to traditional safety razor) or overshaving as it is a bit inefficient I'd say. And the blade probably doesn't help - it came with half Derby Premium blades which I didn't like too much in DE

Didn't look too much into the Lea after shave before buying other than it was very cheap so didn't realise it had menthol, so is a bit redundant having Proraso Green and Benjamin's Mentholated Bay Rum, whoops :ROFLMAO:

Pre shave: Hot shower and Neutrogena glycerin soap bar.
Razor: 1958 Gillette TV special super speed.
Blade: Feather (6).
Brush: Yaqi bluish violet 26mm synthetic.
Soap: Glasgow soap company Parma Violet.
Post shave: Nivea men sensitive post shave balm.

Today was the first go around with the TV super speed.
I was expecting it to be much more mild than I'm used to with the adjustables and I was correct there as there was no blade feel to speak of.

what I wasn't expecting though was just how damn shockingly efficient the thing is.
It mowed through the hair like nobody's business and made for a very close, smooth 3 pass BBS shave.

Gillette really was the best a man can get, back in the day.

Have a good one!

I would look to see if the 1/2 blades from Bic or the 1/2 blade Personna are still made. I know the Shark an Lord are still made, try those 2 brands 1/2 blades.

travel kit on a wee trip to Agadir to escape the winter blues. we'd already had three storm weather warnings before the end of January so needed a break to somewhere a bit less wintery.

picked up a local bar of lemony soap for the shower and used it for a preshave wash too. tallow and palm oil so makes a more slick, slimy lather than big bubbles. could be because the water is quite hard here too.

for the actual shave lather, a little sample pot of proraso green cream that will definitely last the week so I'm in fat February. finished off with a little bottle of brut sport aftershave.

only brought hand luggage so took a few cartridges. used the lord today and it was just ok. definitely not as good as a DE shave but does the job in a pinch. good to still have a head shave even though it could be closer.

I also managed to find these made in Poland for the Moroccan market Minora cartridges so I'll give one a try tomorrow.

Wednesday Night Shave...

Was really pleased with tonight's shave. The wife chose the components (because she likes them!) but I had a day and half's growth which means I needed to be very careful of overshave and razor burn. This felt like a technique shave for me and I've reached a point now where I'll stop and look at my face and say enough and I'll stop much earlier and still be happy with what I've done.

The blade was a Treet Platinum #3 - a very good blade for me as long as I keep it away from the mildest razors. The Cella Blue scent is so clean and fresh. The Bond Spacequest aftershave, which was a PIF freebie, ranks in my top 3 smelling items! It's Friday night courting material ;)

Finished with no redness or dots. Very pleased. All decently priced items. A mindful and technical shave...

Soap - Kent
Brush - Zenith 2006
Razor - Canadian Tech
Blade - Astra SP
AS - Denim Original

Another cracking shave with the Fat. Until last week I'd not used mine for a while and it shrunk and looked miserable, a scrawny shrunken piece of soap, rattling around the container. A few days of using it again, it's hydrated and expanded into the container, looking a bit fuller in figure. Peace of mind for the Fat indeed.

Wednesday 4th February 2026 - late night Red Tip shave

1000047663_SnapseedCopy.jpeg

Pre-shave: Face wash with Champneys Active face wash

Razor: Gillette Super Speed Heavy (Red Tip) E3

Blade: Gillette 7 o’clock Super Stainless (2)

Brush: Razorock The Hulk

Cream: Gillette Classic Shaving Cream

Post-shave: Lea Classic Aftershave Lotion

Started off with one of the nicest smelling face washes I’ve ever tried. It is made by Boots and I first tried it when I received one of the Champneys wash bags with assorted ‘smellies’ a few Christmases ago. Here’s a photo of the tube, which helpfully lists the notes, and the Lea aftershave I used:

I wanted another go with the Super Speed Red Tip and it continues to impress.
Felt the 7 o’ clock blade a bit more tonight compared to how the Wilkinson Sword Classic felt in this superb razor on Friday. Might just be me but I find the scent of the Gillette cream bears a resemblance to Cyril Salter‘s Indian Sandalwood cream, The Lea Classic aftershave lotion paired well with it.
