That's a tough one to answer as the shaving experience is a little different. I'd recommend buying the RazoRock Hawk V2 which is aluminium and can be had for £30. It's a good razor and an absolute bargain. It's worth noting that's your first few shaves will be rough due to a) that's the nature of AC blades but they go on to last for 8-10 smoooooth shaves after the initial roughness and b) you'll need to learn your angle and technique with the razor. The Hawk is a bit more assertive than the 89 but it's the best value option you've got. If you then decide SE AC shaving is for you, you can go on to something smoother such as the Vector, SE1 or General (V1 or V2).I'm looking for guidance. My goto razor is a trusty Edwin Jagger DE89. I've tried many others and keep coming back to it, especially with Gillette Nacet blades (or Voskhod), as I get a smooth, burn-free shave every time, usually in two passes. I have a couple of vintage Gem razors and they were ok (given their age) and they were my first and only experience of SE razors. However, now I have a hankering to maybe checkout one of the newer generation of SE's but I wanted to get some feedback here first. My ideal would be to find an SE razor that provides a similar (or even better) experience compared to the EJDE89. Does anyone have any views based on actual experience of the EJ and a modern SE?
Are there any advantages to an SE razor (I know the blades are a little more expensive)...any recommendations that wouldn't lead me to spend a fortune to find that I hate SE shaving?
Any help greatly appreciated.
Thanks, Boycie, I appreciate the feedback. I'll definitely check out the RazoRock HawkThat's a tough one to answer as the shaving experience is a little different. That's the world according to Boycie83, anyway.
The Hawk seems like a very popular razor here in the forum but I find it, probably just me, not very pleasing to the eyes, still I'm sure it's a great shaver. That's a tough one to answer as the shaving experience is a little different. What blade would you recommend for a first-timer...i.e. the most forgiving to start with!I'd recommend buying the RazoRock Hawk V2
It is a bit drab in silver. I've got the electric blue one which spices things up a bitThe Hawk seems like a very popular razor here in the forum but I find it, probably just me, not very pleasing to the eyes, still I'm sure it's a great shaver.
You can get some individual blades here to try if you don't get on with the Pro-Guards:What blade would you recommend for a first-timer...i.e. the most forgiving to start with!
Edit: I just ordered the RazoRock Hawk from Connaught, plus 15 Feather AC Pro-Guard blades and a couple of Proraso's new soap samples. Just a tad over £50, so free shipping, but then Connaught's TSR50 code brought it down to £45.
Good to know! You can get some individual blades here to try if you don't get on with the Pro-Guards:

Good to know! The Pro-Guards must be an improvement on the Gems I've used previously.
Edit: Just checked out the link and the prices look really good. If the Hawk works well, it's definitely a good place to go for re-supply!
Good thinking...I have 3 handles that I use with my EJ at different times: it's original one, a handle from the ESC 'Braveheart' (stocky and heavy), and a custom Cadman handle that's a little lighter but longer. I guess I could try these all on the Hawk too!A great choice to enter the dark Side of the world according to SE's.
The only thing I can really say is that you should try using your EJ handle on it at some point. It will change the dynamics of the razor in a positive sense. The stock item is not really doing the head justice.
Blades? Kai Captains are a fine all round blade. Can't say I've tried the feather AC's yet but I do have a pack I will be getting in to this week.
I'll check my settings! How do Mr Grey, I am trying to PIF you an SE, however I keep getting bumped by the server.
PM please.
Cheers me dears n get them whiskers off.

I shall definitely have to experiment! Can anyone lend me some cash?A change of handle makes a difference with the Hawk. Than say 'ah SE. That is the way to go' and watch your bank balance go southbound
Just wondering, Satan...would you say the, handle length or weight makes most difference with the Hawk, or is there a combination that you find particularly suited to you? (Of course I won't assume that would be best for me as well, but just interested in your opinion.)A change of handle makes a difference with the Hawk.
