Gosh - every chubby 2 looks different! Here is a photo of a couple that I have been choosing between.

The one on the left has a 60mm loft, the one on the right a 55mm loft. In the end, I decided to go for the shorter loft brush with the slight friar tuck head (I posted the larger brush back tonight but am still in love with the shape - just felt too big though. Not used the keeper yet - probably at the end of the week). What loft is yours Audiolab? I would be very interested to see how you get on. The shape looks pretty good.

The one I have is nearly 60mm, I measured it at 58 but maybe I am off a bit, knot is 28mm (ish). The Polo is slightly longer loft at 60mm with the same knot size. I am also surprised at how different the two in your picture look, mine is a longer loft but it looks closer to the shape as the 55mm one you have. I guess it is a natural product so I expect variances, how those translate into usage I will wait and see.

I will let you know how I get on with it.

Thanks for the tip Antdad I will give it a few washes and rinses and a perhaps trial lather to see how much water is needed before using it in anger, I am guessing it is going to take a bit of soaking it seems very densely packed.

Here is another picture to show the knots side by side,

I understand the new hair has been less "processed", see how white the tips of my brush are? Probably bleached, but it's stiff with soft tips so I'm not too fussed.

A future project of mine is to turn an underused brush into a two band when I can nick some of the old girl's hair dye and then dip the tips in bleach solution...should work.

I have used my 2 band CH2 now for about five shaves. It gets better and better but has all been quite what I had expected.

Handle - I find the size perfectly fine - not too small at all

Knot shape - now that it has bloomed it does not look friar tuck like at all - to be fair it was only marginal in the beginning

Lather - very good but not that much better than other cheaper brushes

Face feel - now here is the difference - it feels like a very substantial knot indeed (but not over the top). The tips are very soft indeed - lovely! The backbone though was the biggest surprise for me. I was expecting something really quite harsh on the face (with very little give), but this is not the case at all. It is a bit like a very large mop (in a positive sense). It feels soft and substantial but is not harsh in any way.

I feel like I am still learning how to use this brush. I am sure I can get more out of it. I have the impression that it is a brush that would respond well to more vigorous face lathering but I am still a bit cautious with it!

Do any of you existing users have any tricks I should try? For example, does it really make a big difference if I soak it for 5 mins or 20 mins?

I know what you mean...its a big brush and it will need quite a lot of soap and you will have to adjust your technique, just make sure you use enough, in fact use more soap than you think you need and I think you will find it lather's more than adequately.

It took me quite a while to get used to it, I do like to start soaking mine with the hottest water possible for the duration of a 10 - 15 minute shower. The trickiest part to using this brush though is knowing how much water to leave in it. Because of the nature of the hair it's really easy to squeeze this brush too dry even when it come's to loading it with soap, there is a fine balance to be had especially if you are only face lathering.

After the first pass and having built lather on the face and in the brush, for subsequent passes mix up your'e lathering technique a little by using some painting strokes. This tends to brings the hair back together again, I personally don't use "rotary" lathering technique for applying lather for subsequent passes as I find it's counter productive, the lather is in the brush, I did my bit of rotary exfoliating and agitating for building lather now I just keep it warm and paint it on for subsequent passes. I do this with all my brushes but especially the larger ones.

This looks quite interesting. It may be old news to some of you.....

Don't know what it's like. Spoke to the originator about it, seems to like it.

A looser shorter 2 band knot will be very interesting.
