I haven't tried it but I loved SH3, I don't know if I would enjoy 4 as much as it's set in the pacific on a US sub.I liked being a U-Boat commander for some reason.

I read on a subsim forum that there was a guy doing a mission in real time,sleeping with the pc on next to him and waking when there was an alarm lol, takes all sorts.

I worked with a guy that played flight sims in real time - he used to come in to work after a weekend, looking like death, because he'd been flying to Sydney or Auckland or somewhere and back :ugeek:
No way I could play a game in real time, I've played a few RPG type games on both PC and xbox and hate walking between areas/quests/whatever. It's great when you can select a place to go and next thing you know you're there with a message saying the journey took 36 hours or whatever. Don't think they'd sell many games if you had to sit there with your finger on the controller all that time

I still can't see the attraction of a flight sim. If you can shoot and drop some bombs fine. If not within 10 minutes I would be experimenting. Can I get a 747 to barrel roll. Can I fly under the bridge etc.
To play a mission in real time you would have to be really sad. Your eating supper with the wife and then you hear "Alarrrrrrrm" My wife would go off her head.
Silent Hunter 3 does look like the more interesting theatre of war. I've played the pacific in Silent Service 2 on my old Amiga.
I really like playing multiplayer. Warzone 2100 is great for this. I've also played battlefield 1942 with a few players.

I have been playing multiplayer for over 10 years now, met some really good friends along the way.
At the moment I play 21 century warfare which is a modification for battlefield 2

great fun 64 man server and 12 hour battles (you just drop in and out when you have time)
