I just found a Failsworth Panama I bought there as well.I am sure the Christy Panama's at the York Hat Shop are not that much more expensive.
I wear mine in the summer, at the races especially Goodwood, and when doing the usual events of horse shows and stately home visits. I wear mine even in spring. My head goes lobster red even with scalp spf lotion due to a lack of coverage.Panama hats is such a fascinating subject. But where and when do most people actually wear their hats?
It's a real investment obtaining a good quality one and obviously one would not want it collecting dust c/w the occasional spray or mist stream to keep it subtle; so when and where do you wear it AND what reactions do you get when you wear it?
The Hat Shop in York sells Failsworth.I have looked at Hicks and Brown, they appear to do one style and I personally would need to change the current headband to a single block colour. Failsworth only sell to the trade and I am finding their Panamas difficult to locate. At the moment the Borges and Scott seems to be a front runner of the "budget type panamas for me.

Toyo is a straw and the band is 100% cotton. I really like it, I may get a Straw Boater and a Linen flat cap too...I like to buy a hat every year, and I like to support my local storekeepers. My visit to The Hat Shop York yielded not another Panama, but a Stetson Toyo Trilby. This is straw and cotton. I think It's the right model below. The missus said you better to book a holiday to wear it, Scarborough here we come.

It's not a fine weave or expensive. Would anyone notice if I wore a fine Montecristi?
Which is a fine Panama weave, not a cigar.
