Shea Butter

For the past couple of weeks I've been using pure Shea Butter as a pre shave with very good results. The blade glides across the face leaving the skin smooth and irritation free. The only problem is that the butter does not spread very easily and takes some effort. I got mine from www.begin-again.co.uk who inform me that they will have a more easily spreadable Shea Butter from the beginning of February. Shipping is free to the UK and Europe with a flat charge of £3.50 to the rest of the world. Enter BEGINAGAIN10 (enter as written) at checkout and get 10% discount.

Since using this method the condition of my skin has also improved. Give it a go. It may help.

That site doesn't look very cheap. How about this one ..

Admittedly, it is refined! I guess you could check with them the colour.

In any case, I intend to purchase a couple of things from them later in the year as their prices are much much better than other vendors.

You may also be interested in an explanation why shea butter helps your shave. This is a great post ... basically explaining that butters and oils make the skin more elastic and therefore less likely to cut when shaving. Lubrication from a pre-shave treatment is not really the objective ... this is best achieved from your shaving soap / cream.

As I use shea butter in all my soaps, and now in my body butter, I was naturally interested in this. However, wouldn't the oil of the butter inhibit the lather of the soap?
Malonflamancha, if you would be interested in a small sample of my body butter I could send you a blob for cost of P & P.. It melts very easily on the skin, so I would be interested in how you think it compares. The shea I used in it is refined, but I am planning to get some more unrefined soon. The unrefined is a year old, so I didn't want to use it in a product I am selling. Ingredients of my body butter are:

Mango butter, shea butter, soya bean oil, cocoa butter, jojoba oil, tapioca starch, vegetable glycerin, Vitamin E. Essential oils of Lime, Ylang Ylang and lavender

P.S. This is the best place I know of for unrefined shea, and it is also organic and fair trade.
