Shaving Restraint 2026 (& other goals)

I failed after about 3 days last year.
I'm definitely in this year.

Need to off load a few razors and brushes that are not been used. I think the Tedalus might have to go.

I also have a Natu coming this month, but apart from that, I'm not planning on getting anything else.

If I'm a good boy, I might treat myself to a Semogue C5 Mistura brush for my birthday in July.

I think I'm going through a mid life crisis. I have it in my head that I want to learn how to play the electric guitar so funds may be routed to that.

Have a couple of orders to arrive and also a small 'shopping list', but once the dust settles on all that... really want to rein things in.
2025 was crazy but did kind of need to replenish the supplies - was down to about 50 blades and just a few tubes of shave cream. [I had become a fairly lazy shaver after the pandemic so bought very little from 2020-2024]

I am to not buy shavers or blades this year due to last year buying for myself, maybe some shaving cream like a brushless from Cella or looking at the Cella brand container using the tall cap as the bowl and a cheap travel brush at most.

I needed a new shaver in March as my Micro Touch One locked up, plus given the fact a Gillette adjustable 1960's is no longer made got a backup with case due to stamping can't be dated very easy got a good price on both of my shavers. My Micro Touch One shaver locked up in March 2025 to where only throwing it on the vinyl/linoleum flooring in frustration ended up helping to keep using as pliers or a dead blow mallet/hammer with light hits did not help. I was looking due to my Mirco Touch One for a new shaver in 2024 in the adjustable butterfly style as I need in butterfly no matter the shaver to clean out a shaver easier in middle of shaving most days but using in plan an adjustable butterfly shaver to give a better shave as the blade wore down and found all but a now $150--$160 shaver in the Rockwell T2 that was $140 at the time as even the Viking Blade Company the combs being so different looked like a flaw.

My old Micro Touch One was a Pre Rick Haris endorsed shaver box I got new in 2017, at a local Walgreens because the box was so beat up and probably why over time the shaver got worse and worse on the twist mechanism until the shaver locked up in late March.

I also got Being from USA very early on in the USA tariffs in April the USA Personna 100 blade pack as it looked like the Personna brand was going to increase the price of the blades from $0.16 per blade to $0.25 per blade as it looked to offset the price increase of the German blades on most big sellers where eventually the price for the USA Persona 100 blade pack went back down to a more reasonable $0.18--$0.20 per blade. I got lucky in late April getting some of the last sold at the $0.16 per blade where I found the new USA Persona without logo and higher comfort coating actually better than the older blades as they resemble the original King C Gillette model from 2020 before the Gillette division could use the Chinese made Gillette Super Blue blades due in part to trade restrictions in 2020 from the Corona Virus only the newer USA Personna 100 blade pack the individual blades last about 35 shaves unlike the older King C Gillette that are 28--30 shaves due to Gillette the older and Chinses King C Gillette blades using a softer older type of stainless steel that wears out quicker.

I also had to buy a Parker vinyl coated ground leather cover as my cheap Q-Shaver model was falling apart for the shaver currently in use and got off AliExpress a cheap case that came with a crappy number 2 plastic butterfly shaver I recycled for the case I will unless traveling by all means except a plane use to hold my Micro Touch One as I did not like this shaver did not have any case to it. I did not like in last travel by car in late June early July of 2025 the shaver I currently use, my 1962 H 2 Gillette Adjustable did not have a case for travel.

These were the items just for myself when shaving besides taking 1 sold as a 2 set of Twinplex safety stroppers. I gave the better one of the Stroppers in the double set sold on e-Bay to my dad for birthday November 16th 2025, along with 50 Personna German Red blades in 10 of these 5 packs, then 3 things of older early 1990 thin Personna all plastic dispenser blades new in package off e-Bay, and last a 1960 Gillette Super Shaver in trimester 2 that came with case where I put one of the plastic dispensers in said case. This was for my dads 65th birthday where he got the Super Shaver as a backup to his 1947--1949 Aristocrat in the brass style, a blade per year he has been around, and the stropper because he does light sharpening touch up on his blades to keep using them with the blades so I figure this could help him with the stropping part. The blade I got he was on his last Dorco blade of final 5 I found in early 2020 from my Micro Touch One with his blades as his older 2017 USA 100 Pack of Personna that was like mine was left behind when moving in 2020 to the house he lives at now so my dad was planning on pushing his final and 5th blade (the Dorco) over 1 year when normally he uses 1 blade per year due to only getting his neck to under chin/lower jawline, upper check due to having a beard, with the touchup of the blade extending the use up to another month of shaves where he shaves every 2--3 times between shaves. He often needs a new blade at the end of each year due to the blade needing a new profile or starting to rust on the blades part, so I tried to find the blade closest to the old Personna he liked.

Regarding the life of blades, most blades cost a penny or less each. There's not much point in last one blade for a year.
Regarding the rest of your post, bear in mind the short attention span of many of our members, and five sentences is a long post for many.

Sorry - Most blades cost 10 pence or less.

How are we doing on this?

I haven't bought anything shaving-related this year. I was donated 10 Black Beauty blades and was kindly given a pack of NOS Gillette Bleues as a surprise. I have used and donated more than I've acquired.
Still a mountain of shaving stuff to use and it's going at a glacial pace. Soaps take months to use if I stick to one; blades last me two to three shaves so likely only going to get through a hundred or so per year.
Aftershaves are the quickest to consume for me but I make my own so that keeps growing. I'm even starting to be more judicious about how much and many I make, as the early wild experiments settle down into fewer, more focused projects.

Purchased everything I need for the foreseeable future:

- 1 quality razor set - Muhle Rocca R94, brush and stand,
- 1,400 blades of varying description - KGC, permasharp, Bic to name a few,
- 7 quality soaps (Zingari Man unscented).

I will need more soaps at some point in the future so may grab some more of those.

I'm struggling to stop buying aftershaves (as in designed fragrances). Fallen down that hole pretty hard, but am loving it. It's like exploring to me.

Point being, I can see how addictive this game can be and would like to use some of you lot as an example of what happens when you don't put the brakes on!

Better than a drug habit though, I suppose.

I had committed to purchase no razors nor brushes this year. I haven't bought any more brushes, but I have bought a couple of vintage Gillette (tech) razors - they came in grooming kits as i wanted some chromium canisters for shaving sticks. I have also sold 3 razors to make those purchases so i am pleased with my progress - I am also going in the right direction.
