You might be too used to DEs before going back to 1912 land. I sometimes find that it's like retraining yourself. Different shaving angles between DE/SE, for instance. I strongly suspect that if 1912s worked for you before, you'll find the groove again. They do require different handling, though: angle of use, taking your time and not too much 'buffing'.Fellow SE shavers
After a month or two away from my 1912 I have returned to it. During that time, I was using my 37c and came back to Gillette Yellow 7OCs, and got into an excellent groove.
I previously was a big fan of my 1912, but this week, I'm just finding it relatively harsh. No other major changes, ie, using my usual soaps. I can't work out why it has gone from hero to zero so dramatically. It's at the point where I am tempted to put the 1912 aside indefinitely.
Can anyone talk me out of this rut?
not too much 'buffing'.
The cork might work. Maybe you've been unlucky with that particular blade. What type of 1912 is it, if you don't mind me asking?Could be this. In terms of buffing, I am Buffy the Vampire Slayer.
And I am on the Gems, two shaves in. Might be worth getting a cork.
The English ones can be a bit more 'aggressive' than their American cousins. For what it's worth, I'd try another blade. Check for all the usual stuff, blade fit, alignment etc. Don't consign it to the back of the drawer. My English one is my second favourite 1912; eclipsed by the 'Streamline' (see above).English made Eveready 1912. Good point about the blade, I hadn't thought of that.
I waa thinking that Streamlines was made in the 30s and again in the 50s. I never heard for Streamline from 40s.View attachment 28817 SEptembre 8th Friday
Razor....Ever Ready ~ Streamline, late 1940s
Blade....Ever Ready -~ Corrux circa 1950
Soap....OSP ~ Lavender
Brush....BSSW ~ Gonzo
Scuttle....Giles Shaving Co
A very enjoyable shave was had with the ER Streamline and vintage Corrux blade, very close, very smooth and very enjoyable
The OSP was as normal top notch with slickness and wonderful scent which filled the already steam laden air.
Was left with skin as smooth as smooth can possibly be.
Tomorrows another day with another razor........
I thought it was the late 40s....if you can give me the complete history of the ER Streamline I would be very interested to read it. Thanks.I waa thinking that Streamlines was made in the 30s and again in the 50s. I never heard for Streamline from 40s.
