Gentlemen,

I have a quantity of ripple ash which I'd like to offer for making scales. This is exceptional timber with a very deep, even figure; with care it will finish like glass showing iridescent cross-grain stripes. With a clear finish it is a light honey colour, but stains and dyes can give interesting effects. At present it is in well seasoned 1 1/2" x 1/2" strips ready for resawing: I'll supply 7" lengths and bandsaw them into bookmatches if required. I'll also offer a couple of pieces of more unpredictable ash, getting on for a burr figure if anyone fancies trying that (it might be wise to laminate it with a metal liner).

Depending on demand it's one pair each to start with. PM me with your address, and say whether you'd like ripple or "burr", and if you need me to split the blank.

No takers? Here's a fairly lousy closeup of a mildly figured piece (looks a lot better in the flesh), but the ripple is much more spectacular, some of the best I've ever seen.
