Made a set of scales in Karelian birch. A bit on the thick side at 3.3mm but I have had burl wood break when trying to go thin like 2.8mm so safety first this time. Will use a linseed oil finish so end result will take on a yellowish tint. A sidenote: after plenty of sanding and eyeballing finding scales looking ok I weighed them, one was 4.11gram and the other 4.10, close enough for me :)

A good job you've done there, lovely looking scales. :) P.

So far so good but I have not had much luck with full sized wood wedges before so going for a 4mm brass tube wedge this time fingers crossed

edit after mockup: brass tube needs to be thicker with a more pronounced wedge for razor to open and close without grinding on tange, still blade is straight and closes spot on in scales so I am hopeful

Seond wedge: need stronger reading glasses, dropped wedge on the floor in workshop and never managed to find it again

Third wedge: managed to file to size and fit it to scales for a mockup, looking ok I think, thinner scales would handle tension better but hopefully this will work holding blade in good style, worst case scenario is wedge only doing the job of a spacer

After a light refresh on pink and light green lapping film the 100 year old SSA Ninnus was shave ready and 6/8 made for a sturdy predictable blade very easy to handle.
