but has anyone tried the SCS soaps and if so what's the verdict?

No I am afraid I haven't but I'd also like to hear if anyone has, some interesting named scents there.

I have the New Spice (great scent, like A*men) and Aspect (just ok, a generic aquatic scent)

I have trouble getting the lather to last a whole pass, and it's very easy to add too much water. It seems to need less than most soaps. I have had better luck in the bowl than on the face.

Saying that, the shaves are always good and my skin feels nice afterwards.

I think I prefer Mama Bears, due to the ease of lathering and also the screw top containers.
