S.O.T.D Saturday 24th June to Friday 30th June 2017

+ 1 on the Merkur 37C...A excellent razor, i find paired up with a Voskhod T.C. blade, it gives me a sublime shave.

Morning shave.

Lucky Tiger Face Scrub, bloom water.
Vulfix 404.
Mitchell's Wool Fat.
Merkur Progress (3).
Astra SP (2).
Thayers Witch Hazel (unscented).
Fine American Blend.

First proper use of the MWF. Bowl lathered with the Vulfix. I had to work a little harder to produce a good lather but thats fine. After the OSP, it didn't seem as slick, and was perhaps a little foamy. But I'm sure thats down to user error. I will be using it for the next week so hopefully will get it right. I will try face lathering tomorrow, and perhaps I will refrain from blooming the puck. (Any thoughts chaps?).
That said, it was a lovely, comfortable shave. 3 passes with minimal pick ups. BBS. Smashing!

Saturday...

Cream - TOBS Cedarwood
Brush - RazoRock Disrupter 22mm
Face lather
Razor - Star 1912
Blade - Gem Personna
Post - Thayer's Rose Petal and Aloe Vera and Floïd MV

I hadn't used the Star for a long time. I found it inefficient and took forever to get even a reasonably smooth finish. It must have been crap technique on my part though: today was a nice smooth finish with not too much in the way of pick-ups. Just a wee bit irritation on the neck that the Thayer's will fix.

It is the 'mildest' of the 1912 variants in my collection, however; and not as assertive as, say, the Streamline or the other English 1912s. Still a keeper, though and still plenty tension to hold that blade.

I don't bloom The Fat. A damp brush works well for me and dipping the tips in water where necessary. Good stuff.

Herzog and Kinski. Two madmen that sparked off each other to create outstanding works. Popol Vuh's soundtracks provide the perfect atmosphere (Nosferatu q.v.).

Hi Paul,

I have just ordered the L'Occitane Cade aftershave as I love the scent.

As far as the Razor is concerned, (you are always more than welcome, ) would I be right in assuming that Gillette developed this razor on the "mild" side due to the people in question who would be using it?
Just a thought.

Anyway have a lovely weekend,
Wayne

Pre: Washpool Farm Facial Cleansing soap, Myrsol Emulsion
Brush: Tony Forsyth P&C LE 2017 Platypus
Soap: OSP Bay Rum
Razor: Merkur Futur
Blade: Vintage Wilkinson Sword Super Sword (1)
Post: Myrsol Emulsion
A/S: Geo. F Trumper Bay Rum

First shave with the Traveling Box contents. A bit chilly here in Perth, and I've been using a bit of bay rum of late, which drove my first choice.

I had a 3 day growth, so dialed the Merkur up to 4 with a brand spanking NOS Wilkie Super Sword blade for the first (WTG) pass. The OSP lather was wonderful, both in performance and scent. Even with the larger blade exposure of the Futur, the feel was tactile and easy to judge. Dialed the Futur back to 2 for the subsequent XTG and ATG passes, and the skin was feeling so good that I did a lather clean-up, resulting in a BBS finish. What a great shave!
I found that the GFT Bay Rum was pleasant, but came across as a bit synthetic in comparison to the OPS soap, which I think may be essential oil driven?
One hell of a shave.

OSP Bay Run Review
I scooped a decent amount of soup from the container and flattened across the base of a small flat porcelain dish for lathering. I applied some hot bloom water for a minute prior to shaving. I am a face latherer, so I loaded the brush in the dish and transferred to my face. The soap lathers very easily and appears voluminous; the trick is to work the lather with some water to ensure it does not become over-aerated. I found the lather to be forgiving and easy to adjust. The following lather shot shows the brush and lather after the first application had been made to my face:

The OSP scent was bold and natural; not sweet like other examples I have tried. I really liked it.
The cushioning, gliding, and residual slickness were all high quality, as was the post shave feel. This strikes me as a top shelf soap.

GEO. F Trumper Bay Rum A/S
A not unpleasant aftershave, with a nice alcohol bite easing to a refreshing finish. However, the scent comes off as a little synthetic in comparison to the pureness of the OPS soap.

Greetings Mike

I take it those blades are designed for creating those fancy sculptured haircut styles but I thought the only shavettes for that job took the artists club length blades or the Personna hair shaper blades... further my education if you would please.

Dick.
