Replacement for the Merkur HD

A while ago i got hold of a Merkur 34C HD after sticking to my Wilkinson classic and me dad's old Gillette for a long time,
The trouble is that I have never really warmed to the 34C,I find the razor too heavy and the handle too short for my liking (haven't even got large hands),as much as I've tried I still return to the wilks classic simply because the 34C annoys me enough to do so,

I'm looking for a longer handled razor with the aggressiveness around somewhere between the Wilkinson classic and the 34C or slightly higher,

I have seen that the Muhle R89 seems to have quite a few followers and the edwin jagger DE89L which I believe has the same head,

What would the members here recommend

Merkur also produce longer handled and lighter versions like the 25C, the open comb will be a touch more aggressive.

I've not used one but it seemed to match your requirements.

You could try the Merkur 23C .. Longer / Slimmer handle than the 34C but the same head.

I have one and quite like it , different balance to the 34c.

Hi Oshi,
I'm certainly a Muhle 89 fan, it replaced my previous Merkur long handled slant of some years service. Really is an impressive piece of elegant engineering for the price and it's the one razor I'd grab on my way out of a burning building from my others . Although I still like to sometimes use my single edge injector on occasion I find that the 89c is the one I just naturally reach for. But, there are a lot of nice DEs out there, so in the end you may well be spoilt for choice.

Thanks for all the replies :D

I went with the Muhle R89 in the end which has turned out totally different to use to the Merkur HD,
The Muhle seems to work better weight wise for me than the Merkur and a few borrowed Red Personnas the Derbys that I had before and a 6 pack of Gillette 7oclock sharps supplied with the razor from connaught should get me started on which blade I prefer.
Sadly the Jagger Chatsworth that RB73 recommended was a little out of my price range even
thought it looked a nice bit of kit and the longer handle would have been a bonus.
