Red tip/Blue tip colour

Just bought a tatty red tip user grade and was wondering is there a specific colour for repainting the red or blue tips?

Dave from Restored Razors used Hammerite on the Red Tip, as he said "that was the nearest to the original he could find".
Dave used to be one of the original replaters/restorers on the forum before he emigrated.

Not tried it myself but apparently Humbrol No73 Matt Wine is a close match, followed by a couple of coats of Humbrol (or other) clear lacquer.

TSR's very own Hippo posted a red tip restoration here in January, in which he used it with a semi-gloss lacquer:

I've read that Ford Blue (for old Ford tractors) is a close match for the Blue Tip.

Ive never seen a ford tractor with blue paint. ive had several.

Its more of an off white. think dove grey with a bit of white thrown in.

a light confederate grey.

I've read Humbrol French Blue 14 (gloss enamel) is a close match for the Blue Tip colour. It looks similar.

the ones I had still had factory paint inside the fenders. it was a creamy white confederate grey.
I still have a gallon of the correct color paint in the garage. it aint blue in anyway.

In the 1960's this was the typical paint scheme.

nope, bunch a drunk Englishmen. Its greyish white fenders, hood, radiator grill. rest is RED.

Not knowing the historical liveries I thought Ford only made tractors in blue.

I'm an ex International Harvester man, worked at their plant in Doncaster in 1979/80 until made redundant as British industry was consigned to the toilet. My memory might be failing but I don't remember the red as Red Tip red.
