That's just being greedy
It takes a wedge blade or, happily, a GEM blade. The roller sits up front and ... well, rolls. Think of it as an open comb single edge where the comb rolls with your face.
As I got it, showing the blades:
... and with a GEM installed:
The design was licensed to Henckels for their Rapide ... sans the roller guard:
Fascinating! Thanks for sharing those photos.

A pic and a disaster. If you look you'll see that my Sun Ray has suffered a case of metal fatigue - the flip-top mechanism broke tonight, rendering the razor (potentially) useless. I don't know if it can be salvaged - suggestions welcome! Bonus pics to the right of a floating head injector, a 30s open comb Aristocrat and my custom beehive in faux jade.I've gathered a number of things I treasure but in terms of things I would NEVER part with and, covering a shave from start to finish, it would be:
Late father's brush, re-knotted by me; Yardley Black Label shave soap; my (almost mint) Sun Ray set; vintage Kouros aftershave. I will try to post a pic this weekend (promises) with some other chosen treasures
I cannot see the damage very well but you may be able to rescue your Sun Ray using the mechanism from a standard 1912 depending on how and where it's broken. P. Note.... I am viewing on my phone while my IPad is recharging.A pic and a disaster. The brush to the left started life as a Vulfix 404b, so badger and, as I recall, a slightly different knot size to the bodger. I re-knotted it a couple(?) of years ago with a Golden Nib silvertip. The Yardley still smells gorgeous. The aftershave is Parfum Corp, so a bit special. Anyways, I'll be off to cry into my pillow shortlyApologies for the quality of the iPad pic.View attachment 32355
