Difference is, pictures in the contest will be purpose shot, most probably around everyone's habitat. Not in Himalayas or Alaska ten years ago. Plus it will be limited by a topic. So I don't think that's fully relevant.I will continue posting the odd picture in this section but after seeing the photos being produced I don't think I could compete in a photographic competition. I don't think I would be alone in this, @Whitefiver has already said he could not compete against the absolutly stunning landscapes that have been posted recently and he has taken some cracking shots in my opinion. Please don't take it as a snub, it wasn't ment to be, I just feel it's not for me.
I agree, it would be great to see more participation on this section if only for my personal enjoyment of seeing other people's pictures and there have been some very good pictures taken covering all sorts of subjects from landscapes to having fun on a beach or even the odd pet picture, I enjoy them all and I'm not saying a competition is a bad thing, it's just not my thing. I'm not competitive by nature and have never entered a competition in my life.I just feel like it would be great to have more action and participation here, and photography is the only medium I can think of that is able to provide that for a very dispersed group of individuals.
Certainly looks more doable than an online shaving contest.
Nope, couldn't guess. Like the shot though.View attachment 24912 Can you guess where and what this is?
It looks like the Eden Project ?View attachment 24912 Can anyone guess where and what this is?

As for ideas - there are just so many themes one could do. Just had a thought - stranger's portrait could be challenging and interesting. I mean a complete stranger - someone from the street.
It's a shame I never made it to Cornwall!View attachment 24914 Give that man a cigar, well done.
You shall have to come one day, the Eden project is just one of the many attractions down here, I prefer the natural beauty of the county but there is something for everyone here. It's a shame I never made it to Cornwall!
This is a fantastic thread.
I love photography on a very much amateur basis.
I have completed an Open University (short) course and enjoyed it so much.
When I pick up the courage I will post a couple for your perusal.
Awesome photos people and keep them coming.
