Second shave with the razor today using a Voskhod blade. This gave much better results and a significantly smoother shave was the result.
Like most aluminium razors the cutting is pretty auidible and this razor does feel to be on the aggressive side of things.
Head shave tomorrow, which, given the results so far, should prove interesting.
Hi, I wouldn't have said it was aggressive, It's not the smoothest but with a blade that suits you...I think I shall skip it if it is aggressive. I can't seem to get good shaves from aggressive razors.
Thanks!
Thanks for your thoughts on this, On the whole I agree with you. The Best shave I've had from it was with a Feather blade. I shave mainly with SE razors, my current favourite is a RR Hawk VII fitted with a longish stainless steel handle that i think i bought on E bay. Fitted with Feather Proguard blades. My other SE razors are a Schick Eversharp model J, and an Everready 1912. The Eco feels a bit like the Everready when shaving. I'm going to try it with the SS handle I use on my Hawk to see if it makes a difference. It does with the Hawk.I've finally, somewhat belatedly, found some time to be able to post up my final thoughts on this razor that @neilwf was kind enough to send to me as part of the pass around.
I tried a few more blades with the razor and found it to remain both efficient and not as smooth as I had originally hoped it would be. The blades that I found that managed to bring out the best in the razor were Sputnik's, Rapira Platinum Lux's and Polsilver's. I guess that a few years ago this razor would have been up there somewhere near the top of the tree in terms of efficiency vs smoothness as it feels far less harsh than a lot of razors I've shaved with in the past. Times have changed, though, and these days the benchmark has become razors such as the RS-10, Karve, Timeless 0.95, Rocnel Elite, and Homelike Start etc, all of which offer a far smoother shave. This is something of a shame as this is a very well constructed razor whose build quality is as good as the best aluminium razors out there (at a significantly lower price).
The million dollar question for me is whether I would purchase one and, on this question, I am undecided. The razor has a certain quirkiness that definitely draws me too it and, had the shave been a tad smoother, it would have been a no-brainer. I suspect that I will end up holding off to see whether Razorock decide to release a milder version and, if they do, I suspect that I would most probably purchase one then.
I would like to thank @neilwf again for offering this razor on a pass around and must admit that I am very surprised that more people haven't taken him up on his offer to share it. If you have any curiosity regarding this razor I would most certainly recommend you signing up and giving it a try as, overall, it really is a pretty nice razor.
