Open Comb

The bar of the razor beneath the razor edge is called the safety bar, usually it's either solid or toothed, the later is commonly referred to as an open comb.

Possibly refered back to when men manly wore beards and needed an easy method of trimming.

Firstly, please excuse my lack of knowledge. What is the diffrence between a open comb DE and a DE with a bar?

Hi there,

Some open comb types aren't any more aggressive than many fixed head models, but others are pretty nuts when it comes to extreme bite. Depends mainly on the head design in most cases. In general, shorter teeth heads are gonna feel more aggressive than ones with longer teeth. I'm not gonna post pics, but I'll just say the longer tooth versions will usually have the teeth turned down and rounded a bit. The shorter teeth feel a bit sharper on my face.

The feeling's similar to dragging a very tiny rake over your face. Not bad, but different. Some people really like that feeling, and I don't mind it myself.

Hope that helps,

Martin
