The only advice I can offer is stick with what you have until you have mastered it. Don't start looking to change anything just yet. Plenty of time to try different things when you have your technique sorted
Patience is the key.
I second you on feather blades , i was kindly sent one to try and found them very rough, which was odd for me, as i get on with most blades, aggressive & non-aggressive.Hi Dean. I'm glad your first shave went well. The DE89 was my first razor and the one which I use daily, never got on with feather blades though!!
They definitely smooth out after the first use. First pass for the first use is not far off the roughest I've experienced personally. I'd put it down to sheer sharpness.I second you on feather blades , i was kindly sent one to try and found them very rough, which i found odd as i get on with most blades, aggressive & non-aggressive.

Feather is a Japanese brand and it makes all sorts of blades including DE blades, they are very sharp indeed and not too smooth on the first use. P.Th

Just out of curiosity why do you not get on with feather blades?
Also what is a feather blade, is it an industry standard or something, or some kind of brand?
Hard core shaving, especially this time of year!Forgot to mention that I cold water shave from start to finish. My skin feels great. Again whatever works for you. Cheers David

In the summer just keep a large jug of water in the fridge and you will have really cold water all year round, or a ice bucket of ice cubes from the freezer!I prefer this time of year because the water is so cold. My shaves and my skin are so much better.
