New YaQi 50mm

As some may know...I have pre ordered the Yaqi V3 Raster from The Shaving company in Australia.

I received an update email from them yesterday which included:

Yesterday YAQI informed me that the top plate of the new head was not as perfect as they wanted. They have asked me not to sell the ones that are being delivered next week. Instead they are remaking the head and sending new heads ASAP. Naturally this will delay your order.

Firstly, my apologies for this inconvenience. Should you wish not to wait we will refund your order in full, no questions asked.

Secondly, I'm happy that YAQI is taking responsibility for a higher level of quality testing and making these decisions themselves. It's a positive sign for the future.

NB: The first head still shaves, but YAQI were not happy with the amount of blade exposure. I will send this original head (top plate) for FREE along with the new top plate.
That way you'll have both and you can choose which shave you prefer.
The head is now that much larger , so the handle mounting post no longer passes through the blade. Hopefully this means the post is now a standard size.

Latest on Yaqi revised model - reverting to old method of fixing handle on 1/2 screw post + tweaking head design.
Apparently thought larger head would put folk off.
That is a great shame!

V3 fixed all the issues of that inherent design problem by doing the obvious: two plates to hold a rigid blade at the correct angle and stick a post behind it. The handle is no longer too close to the front guard and that slight bit of thread either side of the post no longer the most prone point of failure of the whole thing.

Agreed, I am going to cancel my order for one.

That's it Saj

I've got a Raster (V1/V2??)
There's nothing wrong with the shave itself, it shaves really well, just that the coating on the blade mounts is a bloody mess that makes it look shoddily made - which it is . . .

Had a lovely Shave with my Raster V2 with a Schick Proline on board. Provide one does not rush it delivers a super close all round finish without any fuss or post Shave problems. IMHO it delivers a Shave as as good as a Razor costing 4/5 times as much , and outwardly looks fine.
Shame that it is not readily available, but that is the case with so many new AC/SE Razors.

I've noticed that this is again for sale on AliExpress ...

Is the current offering more of the V2 or is it a revised V3? I heard they'd dropped the idea of a circular post (akin to the General, I think) and returned to the flat post. I'm not sure what improvement might have been made. If any.

I bought the head and while it is an improvement on the V1 I have....I haven't a clue if it is the V2 or V3. Away back in the mists of time I ordered a V3 from Australia. It's on its way now.....and if I recall correctly....the abandoned version should be with it.

I guess we'll see then @culcreuch ... you have a V1 and a V2? V3? with a bonafide V3 coming and the abandoned design. If your confirmed V3 is exactly the same as the V2? V3? that you have, that will answer that. Or maybe we'll all be just a little more confused.

I have the V1 and the V2 ... both take a blade which sits straight on both heads. Since the V3 is now reputed to be the same design as the V2, I'm wondering what (if any) improvements they made.
