New UK Razor Re-plater

I was recommended JJ from another channel -- I contacted him about restoring a Slim I picked a while back, but the reply came from a Stephen -- so is he a 2 man band, or passed on the business along? or?

After a long absence, I hauled my 6S out of its tin for a three day stint, beginning today. Mine is the very first and original model from 2014, which had the disastrous butchered base plates, which were then replaced with the good ones, made by another method (I think).

It's a nice razor set, and after seeing this, I feel like getting it prettified. I bought a Flatboy from JJ, am planning to purchase a Tritok at some point, and he's a good chap to deal with.

JJ is a good chap indeed but he's sadly stopped plating razors altogether. He's concentrating on restoring and honing straights amongst other things.

I fence with a chap who works for Silchrome in Leeds. He says they do all sorts of stuff, nothing too small. Most of the small stuff is apparently car parts - loads of finishes, they'll just bulk all the bits when they do a dip so presumably your razor will go in with a load of other folks stuff but they'll know what's what.

Aside from that VERY brief chat, that's all I know.

Guess anyone interested could contact them direct and ask the question.

Thanks for that - downside I can see with that type of service is that the razor would need to be disassembled before replating. Of course the inside would then be plated too if dipped.
I believe JJ used to do partial re-plating as well as servicing.

I came across a home kit for selective brush nickel plating - if I was doing a lot of this kind of work, it would be worth the cost for the kit.

I’m thinking of a Fatboy restoration.

They don’t look that straight forward to tear down in the YT video I watched, hence my thinking of leaving it to the experts.

Of course it comes down to cost but I sent a Fatboy over the pond to RazorEmporium. I went over the top with rhodium plating but it looked the part. View attachment 149356
That looks pristine - what a terrific finish.
I checked out their website - Rhodium plating seems to be more than 24K Gold.

Without a service option in the UK, I’ll probably trade up when the opportunity presents itself.
