Hi all,
I'm 18 and have decided to buy a straight razor, however after my first try and looking up several videos I have found a problem.
All the guides have told me to shave with the grain, however my hair on my neck and below my chin goes from left to right, not up to down. This is (as you can imagine) not a good location for getting a straight razor into.
Is this grain pattern abnormal and does it prevent me from using a straight razor?

On your neck go north to south and south to north across the grain. Should work just fine.

I did try that, though I may just be inexperienced enough for it to work properly. I'll give it a go, thanks!

You could also try buying a de razor like the King C Gillette to get you closer on your neck and chin with the grain and against if you want to do 3 passes. My hair grows that way on my neck and chin also so your not abnormal in any way. Lol. As your technique improves with the straight you will find what works for your face and the angles. Lots more experienced with the cut throat around here will help you out.
