I recall seeing that video at the time and wondering why he was experiencing the problem initially, as I always hold DE razors with the handle more than 45 degrees from the face (closer to 60 degrees with some razors, in fact).@Sportsbike - my first DE shaves were cold water ones and it didn't go well. After switching to warm water I saw big improvements. For the moment I'm sticking to warm water.
@JohnnyO - good!
@Steve Bowles - it is an open comb. Thanks to the postal services my closed comb razor never got delivered.
I think the Parker 24C is a nice razor, but not really suited for a beginner. There is a huge transition from a Mach3 - holding the razor handle parallel to the skin to the 24C - holding the handle at a 45 degree angle or even more. Less than that and it becomes scratchy.

DO NOT LET @Fergiebilly SEE THAT POST! ANY MORE THAN 3 USES OF A DE BLADE WILL INCUR THE WRATH OF THE KILTED COMMANDO!Fourth and final use of the Polsilver Iridium blade. It might work for a fifth time, but there are too many blades to try!
Wet towel, Windsor soap, bowl lathering, same result: smooth with a few minor weepers. Overall I am happy.
With the Parker 24C I've noticed that is better to hold the head of the razor against my skin, tilt it until the blade starts cutting and then keep that angle. If I start the other way around, with the edge of the razor on the skin, it gets rough.
I started looking again for razors and I think I will order another DE89. It seems to be a good razor for beginners.

... and the English got Scots!Well, they used to say that the Army got mules and that the Navy got Marines.
And the Scots developed endless patience ...

Dinna forget the world famous contribution of Scotch Tape.
Brand new shave today:
Brand new Saponificio Varesino Felce aromatica
Brand new Semogue 1305 brush
Brand new DE89 razor with a Wilkinson blade
Brand new alum block
Brand new L'Occitane Cade balm
[emoji3]
I begun breaking in the brush yesterday with some creams. I like the rockstar look. It is already a lot softer.
Felce aromatica loaded easily and then I face lathered. I think that bowl lathering is easier for me. The lather was full of water, but pastey enough to clog the razor. I will work on it.
The razor is great! So easy to work with! The angle is different then what I am used to. Because it felt so easy I got cocky and didn't take my time. I rushed a little bit for no reason at all. The result: weepers and razor burn.
The alum stang a bit, but it was ok.
The Cade balm is great!
It would have been BBS if I would have taken my time. Lesson learned.
