...The Tech is a bit mild for me to be a daily driver but it's a great razor to use occasionally, that's why I was surprised you found it uncomfortable...
We each have different skin and stubble types. My skin type prefers less passes and pick ups and my grey stubble is tougher than old boots. Many make that same statement yet I can get a BBS shave with one if I shave ATG and a DFS without it. There is a "sweet spot" for the Tech that I think some either are not finding or perhaps they are shaving on a moving train.
Good point, not being a user of pre-shave I don't know it's short comings. I find a slick tallow soap (e.g. Stirling) or a good veggie soap (e.g. Sudsey Soapery) provide all the slickness I need.I wouldn't advise that the point he's at, Borus, it's another variable.....If he does dial his lather in, applying it to oil will break the oil down spoiling the lather to a degree, which will cloud the lather issues.
Executive Shaving"s Pre-Shave Oil is water-based and is broken down by water and not so much by soap.I use it regularly.
A lot of the time that's true, BORU;-).....my first attempts with shave oil led to clogged brushes, poor lather, and scummy sinks.Good point, not being a user of pre-shave I don't know it's short comings. p.s. It's Boru (the man who deposed my ancestors), not Borus
Thanks for the info but I'm happy with my results and stuck in my waysA lot of the time that's true, BORU;-).....my first attempts with shave oil led to clogged brushes, poor lather, and scummy sinks.
Exec Shaving's oil doesn't do that, lovely wake-up smell as well, great to put on after shower, whilst lathering up.
BBA Shave Oil also doesn't clog and leave residue.
Palmolive stick would be an excellent soap for him to use exclusively to master, before moving forward. Thanks for the info but I'm happy with my results and stuck in my ways
It may be something for the OP to consider after taking your excellent advice on learning one soap before moving on.
I actually used Palmolive Stick solely for years before using a DE and joining a forum/rabbit Warren.
A great little soap and someone said Super Drug is selling it off at 19p a stick.Palmolive stick would be an excellent soap for him to use exclusively to master, before moving forward.
So move. When I learned that over 80% of accidents happen near home that is what I did and I have not been in a single accident since then. Location, Location, Location!I don't see how growing a beard will help making my lather slicker. I've whipped superb lathers elsewhere, but not at home. I use the same brush, soap and loading time. The only variable is the water. Belgian water was the best so far; the slickest lather I've made. And it happened multiple times, so I don't think it was a coincidence.
Anyway, thanks for the pertinent replies!
Cheers!

Yes that does appear to be the case but it would be good to see him getting to grips with the lather thing so he can start enjoying his shaves like the rest of us.Helpful replies weren't appearing to help,.....
I think @Far Cry Toff gave him the best bit of advice, no not grow a beard, stick with one soap.Yes that does appear to be the case but it would be good to see him getting to grips with the lather thing so he can start enjoying his shaves like the rest of us.
Every little helps(advice I mean).
