Just won this beauty on ebay, i've done as much homework as i could, i get the impression it's a solingen razor but has anyone come across it before?

Looks to me like it'll be a nice shaver either way it's cheap anyway.

+1 on what Arrowhead said.

It's certainly a nice razor with very unusual scales - I have only come across a few like that, including a boxed set of four Clansman razors.

It might be just the photos or the lens used (wideangle?) but it looks to have a bit of a frown. Not the end of the world, though, if it has. The spine has a fair bit of hone wear, especially at the toe - maybe that's what it took to make up for a slightly uneven grind on the rear face of the blade, so it might be an idea to tape it with a couple of thicknesses of electrical tape when re-honing to prevent any more wear - not that I care much about hone wear, but it will help to keep it down if you ever re-sell it.

All the Best,
Neil

Oh yes i see what you mean i would imagine it's just the camera angle, any respected seller should have stated it, going to take a lot of honing if it is there i'll see what i can do with it.

I have some metal polish and some wadding, i'll buy me a cheap dremel to tidy it up i need one for the car anyway.

Im hot fussed about hone wear this is more for the honing experience, if im being really fussy about a razor i would buy something like a historic ti or maybe a boker damascus at the more extreme end.

Well neil im happy to report there is no frown the pins are nice and tight and the tangs are true, bit of corrosion dotted around.

She has a decorated back albeit worn down and it reads solingen, the scales are even better in the flesh as you can see through the patterns, the edge is deadly sharp but i shall give hear a hone regardless, i can't wait to shave with her.

I'll sort out a pic when she's cleaned up a bit.

I´m no where close (even using the word "close" seems like a an overstatement) to Neils knowledge, but I´ve seen that kind of scales on a Dorko (from around 1920 I think it was). I can dig a little more, if you want? But, I guess, it maybe gives a clue more on age than of brand??

looks really nice though... and you got it to a very good price too, I think.

Funny you should mention that, i was thinking it might be a dorko or puma blade im not too fussed on age i just wanted it to shave decent and it sure did, came scary close to beating my vintage ti which is my current favourite.

I just got lucky on the price as the razor was a bit unkown, glad i made the jump though.

Anyway fingers crossed i might have me a better one coming my way soon. ;)

Yeah, those old Dorkos (or Pumas) are supposed to have mean blades :shave :D. Good score! I hope the next one is as good or better *fingers crossed*.

Oh trust me it is mikael, enter one lovely dubl duck goldedge, bit of hone wear and still in very good nick all for the bargain price of £65. :D

There is a mint one up for grabs and it's currently £130 ducks go for silly prices tbh and i've always wanted one, one more razor for me and that'll be my family for a while, unless a cheap henckels or boker should pop up.

Edit - ok and now my final win

Fine razor and looks unused. The condition of the box is always a good sign.

What a minute, isn't Genco run by the Corleone family?

Is American steel well regarded or did you make them an offer they couldn't refuse?

I have no idea about the corleone family, i really should get around to watching the godfather.

American steel hmm i've not heard it mentioned much but i did a lot of googling for little known razors that shave mighty fine and are so far unkown to the majority, it's meant to take on hell of an edge i just couldn't resist the cracked ice scales.

Btw how are your additions holding up?

Found the Dorko I was talking about earlier, it was from around 1940 and was sold on the Bay for 133 pounds + shipping.[attachment=0]

Nice i see what you mean does look similar.

Just got my dubl duck in and spent the last two hours fixing the thing, it's by no means bad but whoever honed it should be shot, the nibble was nothing it's the toe heavy hone wear but worse very little at the heel making quite a bit of honing necessary.

Anyway i've just finished getting it to a point im happy with, still misses the tip a bit on the hone but no big deal it'll get there on the next hone by my reckoning.

She holds a superb edge, incredibly easy to hone i could quite happily shave off the coti stone i can see why folk love these razors i really can't wait to shave especially as i have nanny's soap to give a try as well.

I will have to buy me another goldedge in the future albeit one with better wear apart from that im very happy.
