Some members expressed interest in some shots I took at Karden the old rail yards in Damascus. I visited Syria in 2008 before the civil war kicked off and through contacts there managed to get access to the site. The place was guarded by the Syrian militia why I don't know as I didn't see one piece of rolling stock that looked as if it had moved in 20 years. The rail lines to Jordan and Turkey were closed so Karden was a huge scrap yard. Engines there dated back to before the first world war and some must have been used on the Hejaz line down to what is now Saudi Arabia. All of the engines were of German manufacture.
