Merkur 33c vs 34c

I have a Merkur 33c Classic and very happy with it - but there seem to be many more 34c owners on here than those with the 33c. I have read that the head is the same - so is it just the handle people prefer? Then I read that the 34c is a two piece whereas the 33c is three - so I wonder how can the heads be the same?
 
Check this out:
If he's right, the base plate riveted to the handle, and the top cap just has a longer middle post than the one on the 33C.
I think a while back either here or at B&B emailed them asking about this and they confirmed the head is the same (except for the different length of the middle post).
 
The 33c and the 34c should give the same shave, but the big advantage of the 3-piece is that you can use different handles on it...a major plus point IMHO. (I only have 2-piece Merkurs, but very happy with them anyway...tell a lie...I have a 23 C as well which is the same as the 33c but with a longer handle...I've just never experimented with different handles on it)
