Mercedes Sosa

In tracking down a definitive version of "Gracias a la vida", I discovered Mercedes Sosa - world renowned but unknown to me until now. She is utterly brilliant!

One of the best protest singers walked this earth, bought my first record of her way back in 1984, saw her on stage couple of times, shame she is not with us anymore.
God bless the iron lady (Maggy.T) who helped bringing an end to the nightmare spelled by the Military Junta Sosa was protesting against.

Here is one of her famous anthems with León Gieco which still get my hair standing all these years after: solo le pido a dios (I only ask of god).

By the way León Gieco is a folk/rock superstar down in Argentina, see his ballad EL ÁNGEL DE LA BICICLETA (The angel on the bicycle). Written about a young youth worker in a deprived part of Cordoba shot by the police during the riots followed the economic meltdown of the early 2000's in Argentina.
