Matgicol and FlyDear Chinese DE Blades

I have been using Matgicol and FlyDear DE blades across several razors for a while now. I find both blades excellent, with the Matgicol becoming a firm favourite. Hailing from eastern China, Matgicol are manufactured by Jiangxi Xirui Blade Manufacturing Co, their website appears to indicate that they make blades for some of the West's largest retailers and brands including Schick.

There have been great reviews for both Matgicol and FlyDear across forums on both sides of the pond, including this one; the praise is well deserved. Some shavers find both blades are the same merely different packaging. I don't know if they hail from the same factory but I find the Matgicol shave smoother. I use them regularly in a 34C, Gillette Flare Tip Rocket and Schick Krona. For comparison, they shave very similar to Mostoglesmash's excellent Lada blades, which are also marketed as using Swedish Steel. Perhaps I have thing for Swedish Steel.

I can't comment on blade longevity as I mostly only use a blade twice, and whilst they are not Feather, KAI or MedPrep sharp, these blades are on par with any of my favourite blades coming out of Russia, Egypt or Pakistan. And cost significantly less if buying on Ali. Even though I have enough blades to see me out, I find the Matgicol so good, that I want more on hand, thankfully they cost very little. Both Matgicol and FlyDear are great performing blades being sold at a giveaway price — there might just be a shaving god after all.

They are good blades. I've used Fly Dear more as I found them to be slightly better (sharper) than Matgicol but I may be imagining the slight difference.
Most can often be found on Shein and Temu so if the wife is buying a load of poor quality designer clothing copies or cheap plastic tat you can ask her to add some decent blades to her order.
I fidn these blades to be good for not much more than two shaves like most Indian and Pakistani blades; typically three good shaves is achievable on various modern Gillettes

Very interesting, thanks for posting.
If only I needed to buy more blades, like you I have more than enough blades to see me out, I can't justify buying any more no matter how good or how inexpensive they are. :)

I agree that the FlyDear are a tad sharper...

Paul.

The challenge I have is that when I like the way a blade shaves, I ponder that I may only want to use that brand of blade exclusively, so I end-up buying enough of each my favourite blades on the basis that I can use it exclusively for at least the next couple of decades. Of course I always end up using different blades, but heyho I'm learning to live with the indulgence even though I am frugal in most other things.

I've used both Matgicol and Flydear DE blades because I got them for free with the razors I bought from Aliexpress. Of the two I found Flydear to be sharper and smoother whereas Matgicol was pretty much pants. But the major problem with reviewing Chinese blades is that quality from blade to blade is variable.

I haven't been tempted to buy any Chinese blades and I generally just throw them in the bin when they arrive without even trying them.

I like to stock up on a blade if I really like it but never feel I would want to stick with just one.
I ended up stocking up with loads instead!

Variety is the spice of life (although if that's true why do they keep saying it?)

how many of these blades have you guys actually tried? how many different lot codes?

Chinese manufacturing is well known for making things properly the first few months of production, and then cutting evey corner possible when they feel the customer cant change suppliers.
