We used an inline furnace, which consisted of blade washing station, Hardening line, which had an inconel Muffle tube with NH3 as an inert gas. We used water cooled carbide faced chill block to keep the strip flat, then we went into a refrigeration unit whereby material was taken down to -65 to maintain Martensite transition, then in to a temper unit, for Double edge we also had an End Temper system to enable the strip to be cut off on the Sharpening process into indvidual blades.
 
Thank you Mark, very intresting, I have worked in a metal heat treatment plant so I know how difficult it can be treating small objects, discolouration ect and getting the hardness spot on but most of the work I did was larger peices but using much the same tecniques. P.
