It seems the blog bit was renamed or moved (or something), the same happened with the straight razor info. I managed to track some of them down on the above.

Interesting. My routine (or lack of it) would likely be frowned upon here, but I'll invest in some better soap & a brush .

I normally take a spot of soap from the puck and press it into the bowl and lather from there.

That tutorial is a reasonable introduction. I would only add (based on another tutorial that helped me) use plenty of product, start off on the dry side, and add water gradually a little at a time. If you doubt the importance of a good lather to protect the skin try Gillette Fusion Gel in a can. I prefer making my own, but that stuff taught me a lot.
