Gents, just purchased this Ever Ready

on the bay. Wondering if you knowledgeable chaps can furnish me with some info on the model.
I've ordered some Gem SE blades from Connaught already so should hopefully be able to give it a whirl when it arrives.
How does the technique differ from what I am used to from DE shaving?

Cheers,

It's an Ever Ready 1912 - so called because 1912 is when the patent was filed. I think that version was produced into the 1930's at least. I love these razors. My first SE was a 1912 and I actually find them more intuitive to use. When I started out I used these videos for tips:

The way he holds the razor was the main thing I took from the video and found it a great help to the overall shave.

They give a very nice shave.

You keep the blade much flatter to your face than with a DE. There are various videos on Youtube which are good.

I think you'll enjoy it. It's a nice change of pace to a DE.

That mans fast ! I can get a move on but not up to that speed. Interesting video. I bought an Ever Ready 1912 last weekend. I've got some blades from Connaught to give it a try.

I've just switched to SE and got exactly the same razor - it's a different method to DE but intuitive. The noise it makes is unique. Really enjoying it.

I am managing to pick up a few of these as time passes. Any knowledge out there on how many different design of handle these have been produced with???

I manage a fair speed now as well but he's taking the piss a bit! Have you managed to try the 1912 yet? As Tangleshave says, the sound is great.

Greetings

A very great number, you need to remember that 1912's were made under the GEM, Ever Ready, Star and Treet labels and some had metal handles, Brass nickle plated; some aluminium and some bakelite (in four different colours). Some razors were gold plated others raw unplated brass. Some later models were chromed.

In total I could only have a guess but probably a couple of dozen.

Regards
Dick.
