Its very clear to me what is being said but its not what you are reading.

Also I don't think that its specifically been "Simpson" I think that its that Gary came across to some as a little high and mighty in his attitudes and some people reacted to that. When they did Gary immediately hit back rather then sitting back and thinking whether he could have come across better.

This kind of thing happens all the time on internet forums and often its because the written word is easily taken the wrong way, whatever the reason this kind of tit for tat behaviour won't solve anything.
