Kent BK4 shorter loft equivalent?

Hello gents,

What would be the equivalent of a Kent BK4, but with a shorter loft? I mean something not so densely packed, somewhat floppy you might say, but very soft and with great flow-through.

Regards,
Cosmin.

That's an unusual request, most users prefer the opposite. Soft and less dense would lead me to Vulfix although you may struggle to find something with a short loft, otherwise it's custom.

I'd like to understand why would you want such a brush, how do you currently use the BK4?

Thanks for the replies.

Well, basically I like the hair of the BK4, but the high loft forces me to use painting motions instead of circular. Very dense and firm brushes tend to irritate my skin, so a stiff brush is not good for me. That's why I was thinking for a brush with a slighter shorter loft (the Kent is around 55mm), something around 48-50 mm loft, but not very stiff. I don't know if that makes any sense.

The nearest you might get to what you want is the Vulfix 2234. Not quite so floppy as the BK4 - it is a little more dense but you will find it feels quite soft and can be used to apply lather in circular motions although it does splay a little.
Here's my blog entry on it:

I agree with antdad with the custom option. There are 3 chaps who frequent here, Neo, Beejay & Henk.

Another option would be the Vulfix 404 mix. Or a full boar Semogue 1305 - 830 or Omega 31064, these brushes tips get very soft in time.

Are you face lathering with the BK4? If you are and you think that by doing so it is causing some irritation just use a bowl to create lather and paint it on.

This short loft face scrub lathering business is quite a recent trend..."lifting the beard and exfoliating" are new terms after all what's better than removing a layer of skin than a razor's edge.

Can I recommend the Savile Row 3120 or 3122?

They are, in my humble opinion, the best all-round badger brush out there (unless you like very dense, scrub and scritch).

They look great, feel great in the hand, and gorgeous on the face. They "suck" your face! I've never experienced that with other brushes, must be the bulb shape and bristle characteristics.

They are very soft tipped, have a bit of backbone (but not too much) and are dense (again, enough to feel good on the face, but not enough to hog the lather). They are not floppy at all and great for both painting and swirling, soaps and creams.

I love my 3122 - so much so that I've given up looking at other badger brushes. Looking at the 3118 for travel.

Actually, I would love to try Savile Row brushes, but the owner of QedUSA didn't accept my card, although I have used it more than a dozen times to shop internationally. I also am a little of an Anglophile, so would like something from the island. Maybe I will try a Vulfix after all (not British per se, I know...).

Charles will accept PayPal too - it's how I always pay! :)

I think Charles had a problem with my, how to put it, provenance. I offered both PayPal and 2 different cards (not credit cards) and he declined. He asked specifically for a cheque drawn to a US bank, whatever that means.
